Do you offer degrees?
No, we don’t offer degree courses, but short courses certified by our partners.
Do you offer certificates?
Yes, upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive an academic certificate endorsed by the partner and/or institution they are enrolled with.
Will the certificate secure me a job?
The certificate will assist you with applying for positions that require a specific skill set and will show employers that you are competent at that skill. It will not secure a job for you, but will enhance your resume.
Do I get credits from courses?
All our courses enable successful learners to achieve a competency-based certificate issued by an accredited or registered formal institution of learning. All South African institutions are all registered and accredited through the Council on Higher Education (“the CHE”) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). All other courses are non-credit-bearing but are certified by our accredited partners.
I’m going on leave, what happens to my course?
If a learner takes leave, they will be required to complete their course work while they are on leave.
Can I get a physical copy of my certificate?
Depending on the certifying partner, you will be issued with either an e-certificate or a physical copy.
If I do a lot of short courses will I be able to get a degree or diploma?
No, the short courses are designed for skill development and do not assist with your degree or diploma, which you would need to obtain separately.
How do I enrol?
Go to our website, masterstart.com, search for the course you’re interested in, click on “Register Now,” and complete your details. Our Enrolment Managers will contact you to process your enrolment and guide you every step of the way.
Can I defer my enrolment?
You can defer your course to the next scheduled course start date if you submit your deferral before
7 days of the course start date. Should you wish to defer your course, please email MasterStart at enquiries@masterstart.com.
What are the payment options?
You will be required to pay your course fees in full before the final registration deadline.
Can I pay over several months?
I want to make a credit card payment, but I have a credit card limit.
Unfortunately, the overall cost of the course must be paid in one transaction. If your credit card payment limit is less than this amount, we would advise that you contact your credit card issuer to increase the payment limit on your card. Alternatively, you can make the payment via an electronic fund transfer (EFT). Please contact us to discuss your payment options.
I have tried to make a payment through the online link, but I received an error message. How do I resolve this?
Please ensure that all information entered when making a payment is complete and accurate. Contact us at enquiries@masterstart.com if you have questions about the payment process. If the error message persists, contact your bank to authorise the payment.
Have you received my payment?
We encourage our learners to make use of our payment gateways. Payments made via our payment portals are instantaneous, while payments made via direct deposit, electronic funds transfer, or wire instruction can take anything up to 5 (five) days to reflect in our account. Once payment is received, a payment receipt will be emailed to you by our finance team.
What is your cancellation policy?
You have 7 (seven) calendar days from the course start date to cancel and request a refund of any amounts paid by you in respect of the course. Your refund will be paid to you within 30 (thirty) days after receiving and accepting your cancellation request.
What happens when my account is suspended? How do I gain access to my online profile again?
Email enquiries@masterstart.com once your account has been paid up to date to help guide you through the reactivation process.
What is the Online Campus?
At MasterStart, we call our virtual learning environment our Online Campus. It is your window to humanised online learning; course material, quizzes, recordings, and community chat are all accessible through the platform. Your login details to the Online Campus will be provided to you before your course commences.
What does a Learner Success Coordinator do?
The role of the Learner Success Coordinator is to assist and support you through your online learning journey with MasterStart.
I have paid for my course, so what is the next step, and when will I receive my login details?
You will receive all course-related emails and your login details for the Online Campus from your dedicated Learner Success Coordinator, on the course start date.
What support do I get during the course?
During the online course, you have access to a dedicated Learner Success Coordinator and an Industry Expert who will guide you through collaborative learning sessions and the course content.
How flexible is the course for my schedule?
The course material is available from the moment you log in, and you can work through each module per week with the confidence that a Learner Success Coordinator and Industry Expert are there to support and guide you.
When will I receive my course material?
Because this is an online-based course, no course material will be sent to your postal or physical address. You can access your course material through the Online Campus.
Can I complete the courses from my smartphone?
Yes! For your convenience, our Online Campus is available to view and interact with on mobile, desktop or tablet.
Can I use the PDF notes instead of the online notes?
By engaging with our online course notes, you will gain a deeper understanding of the content and a richer experience. You are welcome to download and use the PDF notes when you are not able to go online, however, this will impact your learning experience.
Can I download the Module content?
Yes, you can download the course notes in PDF form under Resources on your Online Campus.
What browsers are compatible with your Online Campus?
Latest versions of Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
What time do I have to be online to log in to the course?
Throughout your learning journey, you can log into our Online Campus at any time. We do not have prescribed times for logging in.
Why are the PDF notes different from the online notes?
We continuously improve our courses, but we only apply these changes to the PDF notes during specific maintenance periods in the year.
What is the pass mark requirement?
The majority of final assessments will be marked against an assessment rubric with a minimum pass mark. The pass mark is dependent on the certifying partner.
What happens if I cannot attend the collaborative learning session?
While we encourage you to attend the live sessions, if you are unable to attend, the recordings are made available on the Online Campus within 24 hours after the session.
Can I request for the collaborative learning session to be moved to a later date or time?
No, the dates and times are confirmed with our Industry Experts beforehand. That is why we record the sessions and upload them onto the Online Campus for viewing.
What platform is used for the collaborative learning sessions?
All collaborative learning sessions are hosted on Microsoft Teams.
Are the Collaborative Learning Sessions compulsory?
The sessions are not compulsory, however, we strongly encourage you to attend as this is where workplace applicability takes place.
Do the live sessions cover the course material?
Our collaborative learning sessions are not lectures, but an opportunity for you, your peers, and the industry expert(s) to unpack weekly topics from the course material and engage with the material in a practical and workplace-applicable manner.
Where can I find the recorded sessions? And after how long will the sessions be uploaded to the Online Campus?
Our technical team uploads recorded sessions 24 hours after the session. These sessions are accessible on the Online Campus in each module below the community chat section. If you are unsure where to navigate, please contact your Learner Success Coordinator for assistance.
Why are the quizzes not contributing to the final mark?
Quizzes are informal assessments to test your understanding of the content. Depending on the partner, they may or may not contribute to your final mark.
Can I submit my assignment before the due date ?
Yes, You can. Please note that you will only receive the grades two weeks after the due date.
Are the quizzes timed?
No, the quizzes are not timed.
What happens if I am in the middle of a quiz and I lose connectivity or experience loadshedding?
A quiz attempt is complete once you have answered the final question. If you lose connectivity during an attempt, you will regain access to the point in the quiz where you lost connectivity.
Can we create a whatsapp group when working in groups?
No, we prefer to keep all communication and group work on the community chat.
Can I do my Turnitin submission a week before submission?
Yes, you can.
Do I get penalised for going over the word count required for the summative assessment?
There is a 10% limit allocated to each assessment. Depending on the allocated word count, you may go 10% over or 10% below. Should you not meet these requirements, you will be asked to resubmit your assessment.
Can I submit my assessment as a Word document?
No, only assessments submitted as PDFs will be accepted.
I uploaded the wrong file for my assessment; would you be able to reverse it?
Learners have the opportunity to edit their assessments at any time before they are assessed.
How long will I have access to the online platform after the final assessment has been submitted?
You will have access to the course for up to 8 weeks after your final submission.
Can I get an extension?
You will only receive an extension due to unforeseen circumstances and will require documentation (i.e., a medical certificate) or an email from the line manager.
How many attachments are allowed when submitting your assessment?
Only 2 attachments.
I submitted my assessment; when can I expect my marks?
Approximately 2 weeks after you have submitted your final assessment.
Where else can I get in contact with my classmates besides the forums?
To chat with fellow learners on your Online Campus, use the community chat feature or the direct message option.
What is MasterStart South Africa?
MasterStart South Africa is the South African partner to MasterStart, focused on minimizing an organisation’s training spend and increasing their Return on Learning Investment (ROLI).
How do I go about selecting courses for my team?

How do I enrol my employees?
Once a quote has been sent by one of our BDEs to you and approved you will be sent a booking form to capture all nominated learners from your organisation. A purchase order will be created and an invoice issued. Once payment has been made we will assist with the enrollment of your employees.
What support will my employees have?
Our Learner Success Coordinators help and encourage learners to attend live sessions. If they have questions while working through the material – we have a community chat that is monitored by both our LSCs and IE for feedback.
Will my employees receive accreditations?
No, each learner will receive a certificate of completion issued by the learning partner of the course.
Will my employees have time to learn?
Yes, each of the learners receive access to all the
modules and learning material the moment they
start the course! Each of the collaborative learning
sessions is recorded and available for review.

All our courses are also Category B aligned on the skills development matrix – so you can claim your employees salary for the duration of the course and the course cost towards your skills development spend – this is a great way to maximise your spend requirements whilst minimising your cash flow output.
How can I see my employees progress and pass rate?
At the end and during the course our Sales team (B2B) will provide you with weekly feedback provided by our Learner Support Team. This report helps you to identify any red flags or at risk learners that we can address.
